The fragmented decoration of this pattern is inspired by the Japanese practice of repairing pottery by putting the pieces back together with liquid gold or silver. Kintsugi bowls are often used during tea ceremonies as a symbol and metaphor for the idea that an even greater form of aesthetic and inner perfection can be born from imperfection or a wound.
